Franklin C. Wagner, Jr., M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Wagner received his medical degree from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine of Wake Forest University in 1966. He completed his residency in Neurological Surgery at Northwestern University in 1972.

He was a member of the Neurosurgical faculty of the Yale University School of Medicine from 1972 to 1982.

As an Associate Professor of Surgery (Neurosurgery), he pursued his interest in clinical and research aspects of spine and spinal cord diseases.

He became Professor and Chair of the Department of Neurological Surgery at University of California, Davis in 1982. In 1999, he left the University of California, Davis to become Professor of Neurosurgery and Chief of the Spine Section at the University of Illinois, Chicago. While at UIC he was a member of the MST Study Section of the National Health Institutes of Health. He remained at the University of Illinois, Chicago until joining Spine & Neurosurgery Associates in 2004.

Dr. Wagner was certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery in 1975. His memberships include the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the Society of Neurological Surgeons, the Society of University Neurosurgeons, the Cervical Spine Research Society, the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Neuroscience, the Society of Sigma XI, and Alpha Omega Alpha.

Dr. Wagner continues to contribute articles dealing with spine and spinal cord disease to scientific journals and serves as a reviewer for various scientific journals.
